Beautify and add interest to your pond or water garden
Thick with green growth and with the colorful spark of flowers a small Floating Island will be an enchanting addition to any waterscape. Islands can be small enough for a water garden or large enough to help clean larger ponds. There are no hard and fast rules of what size island to add; go with the number of islands that looks best! Attaching several islands together to form an archipelago can look stunning in a backyard pond!
Natural improvement of water quality and habitat enhancement.
Beyond being beautiful, floating islands can be an effective tool in maintaining excellent water quality in your basin or pond. The island itself is constructed of a patented combination of materials that encourage the stabilization and efficient growth of plants. Over time moss, grasses and other interesting aquatic plants, like the sundew, can even naturalize on the island, further enriching the island habitat.
The plant root structures that grow through the floating island's substrate feed on nutrients in the pond. Since these nutrients often lead to algae blooms or cloudy water, a floating island becomes a natural water filter, that is highly effective and beautiful. As the chart below suggests, nutrients and minerals that can decrease water quality are removed by plants and the bacteria associated with the floating island.
The bio-film that grows on the bottom of the island and on the surface of every root is a food source for fish. The larger sized Islandscapes™ enhance habitats for amphibians and visiting waterfowl. All islands create shade in the water basin or pond which attract fish for easy spotting.

Your Islandscape comes in a single box with a handle on the inner sleeve and contains the island, the growing media (special soil mixture), the tether ring for anchoring the island and complete planting instructions. Islands can be left to freeze in your pond, Canadian winter after Canadian winter!
Recommended Plant Species
Islandscapes can grow almost anything - use your imagination and let your passion dictate your planting! Herb gardens, terrestrial flowers, shrubs and trees have all been grown on these incredible islands. Nourished by a
steady supply of nutrient rich water, bare plant roots are planted directly into specially prepared Islandscape Soil Blend, enough of which is included with every island. As for choosing plants that can tolerate wet roots, indigenous aquatic plants work well but so do a wide variety of species including the following:
Marginal Species:
Willows - Cattails - Horsetail - Water Celery - Bluebells - forget-me-nots
Edible Species:
Lettuce - Strawberry - Snap Peas- Zinnia - Basil
Ornamental Species:
Amaryllis - African Violet - Water Iris ... and many more; experiment and have fun!
